None of this will cheer you up. Here’s the New York Times reporting on the Tibetan exiles’ meeting in Dharamsala.

“I think the breakdown of the talks between Beijing and the Dalai Lama is a major disaster, and it has now created a no-win situation for the Tibetans and China,” said Tsering Shakya, a Tibetan historian at the University of British Columbia.

The Dalai Lama, 73, issued a statement Friday expressing disappointment.

“Despite this approach receiving widespread appreciation from the international community, as well as the support of many Chinese intellectuals, there have been no positive signs or changes in Tibet,” he said.

The meeting in India, he said, will allow Tibetans to discuss “in a spirit of equality, cooperation and collective responsibility the best possible future course of action to advance the Tibetan cause.”

The redoubtable Danny Fisher points us to The International Campaign for Tibet’s coverage or rather preview of the talks between Tibetan exiles and Beijing, which includes the text of a memorandum on autonomy proposed by the Tibetan side of the negotiations. It makes for rather melancholy reading, knowing the talks turned out as they did.

And Konchog of Dreaming of Danzan Ravjaa has two great Burma links: one to a Burmese blogger and the other to the Buddhist Channel’s ongoing coverage of the situation in Burma. Protest, arrest, arrest, arrest, violence.

Plus the terrible bus-crash in Tibet. Death toll is at 18.
