The Inevitable Buddhist Connection to the Virginia Tech Tragedy

Philip Ryan

Check out the English version of pravda.ru for a Buddhist tie-in to the Virginia Tech killer. (They have an interesting take on the Imus situation too. If you're at all interested in how this Pravda connects with the well-known Soviet publication, see here. I'm guessing the Soviet one was a little less lewd, though the comments about the U.S. and Europe in the contemporary version wouldn't be out of place in the Brezhnev era. . . Brezhnev had incredibly intimidating eyebrows.)

What this article really shows is a preposterous amount of overthinking and overanalysis bordering on the whimsical in our collective need to make sense of events like these. In this as in every tragedy, our focus should really be on remembering the victims.

I'd like to apologize. That joke about polonium-210 was in really bad taste. I wish I could edit my comment.

Oh well. I suppose it offers a little bit of insight into the duality of my personality half wise-cracking cynic and half compassionate spiritual seeker.

We humans are complex, no?

I think Putin got a hold of your links and fed them some polonium-210.

On a more serious note - - You make a tremendous point about the danger of trying to over analyze situations such as this. Such tragedies cannot be explained in a way that will satisfy the intellect - - they are unconscionable. We can only hope to heal the suffering through compassion and equanimity.
