I'm guessing the Soviet one was a little less lewd, though the comments about the U.S. and Europe in the contemporary version wouldn't be out of place in the Brezhnev era. . . Brezhnev had incredibly intimidating eyebrows.)
What this article really shows is a preposterous amount of overthinking and overanalysis bordering on the whimsical in our collective need to make sense of events like these. In this as in every tragedy, our focus should really be on remembering the victims.

Oh well. I suppose it offers a little bit of insight into the duality of my personality half wise-cracking cynic and half compassionate spiritual seeker.

On a more serious note - - You make a tremendous point about the danger of trying to over analyze situations such as this. Such tragedies cannot be explained in a way that will satisfy the intellect - - they are unconscionable. We can only hope to heal the suffering through compassion and equanimity.
