This retreat is for people who want to take Buddhist practice beyond the cushion and into everyday life. By taking a closer look at the teachings of the Metta Sutta, the Buddha’s sermon on impartial kindness, we will find an overview of the entire practice path. Boorstein will present these teachings in four parts: 1) Intention: Where Do You Want to Go? 2) Ethics: The Bliss of Blamelessness, 3) Mental Discipline: Mindfulness and Lovingkindness, and 4) Wisdom: Liberation and Happiness. The Metta Sutta suggests that all of our life experience—our relational life in the world as well as our spiritual life—is the perfect venue for practice.
Sylvia Boorstein is a psychotherapist and a founding teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. She is the author of Buddhism: It’s Easier Than You Think; Don’t Just Do Something, Sit There; and That’s Funny, You Don’t Look Buddhist. She has been teaching meditation since 1985.
