Female buddhas? Indeed, the new exhibit at Manhattan’s Rubin Museum of Art has surprised many educated and cultured New Yorkers. The Rubin’s remarkable collection of amazing women, from virginal beauties to animal-headed goddesses and savage witches, demonstrates dramatically that there is much more to Buddhism and Himalayan art than an historical rebel prince meditating beneath a Bodhi tree.
