September Film Club: Brilliant Moon
This month we are offering supporting and sustaining members a look at the documentary film Brilliant Moon: Glimpses of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Brilliant Moon chronicles the life of the poet, writer, and meditation master Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, one of Tibet's most loved and respected 20th-century Buddhist teachers. Written and directed by Neten Chokling and narrated by Richard Gere and Lou Reed, Brilliant Moon was filmed in Tibet, India, Bhutan, the United States, and Nepal. The film uses animation, unseen archival footage, photographs, and interviews with Tibetan Buddhist teachers—His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Matthieu Ricard, Orgyen Topgyal Rinpoche, Rabjam Rinpoche, and Sogyal Rinpocheto—to tell Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche's life story.
Brilliant Moon will only be available to watch on Tricycle until the end of September. To purchase a copy of the DVD or download the movie, please visit Alive Mind Cinema here.

Does anyone know the name of that deep, melodic song (or the man who sings it) that plays during the montage in the middle of this documentary? It sounds like a chant of some kind.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful heart shining outward into the world with ripples that
inspire peace ever outward.
Thank you so much for this gem.
Thankyou for this gem...
I happened upon one of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche's book in 1993 and have been blessed by his infinite wisdom ever since. Thank you so much for this film, a glimpse of his immense contribution to sentient beings, and the blessing to see his reincarnation. When I see a brilliant full moon, I see Dilgo Khyentse's beautiful smiling face and it fills my breaking heart with joy. May many others have the auspicious blessing to see this film and be touched by this master!
Thank you for this film.
I feel blessed to have been able to view it.
Such an incredibly beautiful and moving film. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to view it.
Beautiful. Thank you!
In Lhasa today do can not see this movie - be thankful you can - if in China it would be blocked
Thank you... what was the last chant? is it available?
Blessings,
Jane
What a beautiful film. Thank you, tricycle.com for making it available online.
His fathomless heart shines through each time he smiles. This is a touching and insightful tribute to one of the very important teachers of my own teacher, Sakyong Mipham, Rinpoche, as well as of his father, the mahasiddha Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. May their teachings bring us to liberation, and may their lives serve as shining inspiration for ours.
Thank you. To see this footage truly is a blessing. Thank you to all who made it possible .
thank you for this beautiful and very loving experience.
I am moved and grateful.
Now I "discovered" another Great Master of Compassion to search for teachings.

What an astonishingly beautiful film. Does anyone know who is the artist who did the animation? Is it perchance Vladimir Kush? Would be grateful to know.
Hi improvwisdom,
The animator's name is Branko Teslic.
Cheers,

Thank you for the glimpse of an extraordinary life.
I shall carry with me always DKR's emphasis upon
affection for all. To live the Teachings - of whatever
Master you follow - does not rely on words. Words
are always with you. But affection is the very breath
of cosmic being and transformation.
A beautiful film of a sublimely wonderful being. Thank goodness for DKR.
I enjoyed this film very much. Many thanks to those whose hard work and research went into the production. I especially appreciated from an artistic point of view, how the animation was interwoven with actual film footage of Rinpoche. I am inspired to read "Brilliant Moon". Excellent narration by Mr.Gere. Thank You Tricycle for sharing this with your readers.
thank you for this great film. i am humbled and greatful for the teachers, the teachings they share and for those who bring these messags to the 'mainstream', ie 'internet' so that they are accessible.
Having read "Brilliant Moon", Rinpoche's autobiography with additional comments by others, I found this film a wonderful way to cap that reading. Just to witness the brief teaching that is included in this film filled me with awe and love for him and his teachings. I felt as if I had received the teachings directly, so full of him was this film. Thank you Nete Chokling for making it and to Tricycle for making it available.

Thank you for introducing me to another teacher, there are so many to learn from and this is another that I will look into more deeply. Thanks and namaste!
a beautiful film, thank you I feel blessed by his love even by just viewing this.
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche touched me most, as a genuine human and humane being; his teachings and presence and titles are interesting, but I'm a plain wooden bowl zen buddhist; trappings, reincarnation, etc, are not necessarily interesting to me. But...his treating all he met equally, that is impressive, and the bottom line for a true buddhist. Thank you for this film.
Thank you for such an inspiring life history into the Brilliant Moon & Glimpses of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. I am a Soto Zen practitioner but loved every second of this film. I truly felt inspiration from such a great person who showed so much compassion to all he encountered. Three bows to the individuals responsible for this film. I feel blessed to have experienced it.
Thank you,
Rev. Gerry Yancey
