What does the 17-year-old descendant of Tibetan royalty do during a visit to New York? In "The King and Us," New York Times journalist Dorothy Spears recounts her experience hosting Namgyal Wangchuk Lhagyari Trichen—the descendant of three ruling monarchs of Tibet—at her Manhattan home. Trichen, as he calls himself, was in town for ten days to show his 30-minute film "My Country is Tibet" at schools around New York in partnership with BYkids, an organization that pairs filmmakers with children and young adults to make socially conscious documentaries. Buddhism & Science: How the dialogue might go deeper—or where it might end
After all the discussion of science and Buddhism in my last post (see comments 7-11), I came across the Dalai Lama's appearance before an audience of more than 500 Korean Buddhists in Yokahama today, where he encouraged the study of not only Chandrakirti but also science. On disagreeing with the Dalai Lama
A few posts back I cited an AFP article in which the Dalai Lama, in advocating nonviolence, appeared to criticize the Sea Shepherds, a group of anti-whaling activists who have been much in the news lately. More »
