Eve Decker, a retreat manager at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California, recently got some press coverage for her performances at Spirit Rock and a new CD entitled “Commentary on Perfections of the Heart.” According to the Marin Independent Journal, the album is

believed to be the first dharma CD…an acoustic folk-pop album based on the 10 paramis (teachings) of Buddhism—generosity, virtue, renunciation, wisdom, energy, patience, truthfulness, determination, loving-kindness and equanimity.

It probably wouldn’t be in the spirit of dharma music to check whose debut album was released first, but Connecticut’s Ravenna Michalsen has been composing her own Buddhist tunes for a while. Read about Michalsen in a Spring 2009 Tricycle article by Buddhist blogger extraordinaire Danny Fisher.
