Eyes open or closed? Full or half-lotus position? Where do I put my hands and what shape should they be in? How long have I been sitting incorrectly?

Whether or not Zen is your particular persuasion, meditation teacher Brad Warner can help you get grounded and establish a daily practice. In this video, Warner will give you an introduction to the breath and take you through proper body alignment.

He will strongly advocate for sitting on a cushion (but that doesn’t mean you have to sit on the floor if that’s not the best option for you).

“The best thing to do when your mind gets foggy is to adjust your posture. I remember [hearing this from my teacher] and thinking ‘that’s a load of crap.’ And it’s been more than 20 years since I heard that and I think every day for those 20 years I have never found a moment where I was deep in thought or distraction and my posture was still good,” Warner says in the video.
