Tricycle: The Buddhist Review, a not-for-profit quarterly magazine devoted the ongoing discussion of the adaptation of Buddhism to Western culture, seeks an editorial assistant. This entry-level position is an excellent opportunity to join a small, collaborative editorial department. The editorial assistant will work with editors on all facets of the magazine as well as some aspects of the website. The position includes editing, writing, and administrative tasks. Applicants should have a college degree and a demonstrated interest in writing or editing; an interest in Buddhism is preferred. Responsibilities will include: • Helping to assign and edit articles • Copyediting, line editing, and proofreading • Conducting art research • Selecting book excerpts to reprint • Fact-checking • Assisting with magazine production and layout • Assisting with the online magazine and web archives • Managing the review process of unsolicited article submissions • Answering general editorial inquiries • Administrative duties such as ordering review copies of books, preparing mailings, and handling permissions • Other duties as assigned Additional qualifications: – Bachelor’s degree – Strong verbal and written communication skills – Ability to work independently and in small groups This position is full-time with benefits.
