A visit from Lama Jhampa Thaye
We were very pleased today to receive a visit from the scholar and meditation teacher Lama Jampa Thaye, who was trained in both the Sakya and Kagyu lineages and authorized as a lama by his two masters, Karma Thinley Rinpoche and H.H. Sakya Trizin. He was accompanied by his daughter who is a relatively new New York resident. The lama himself lives in London (though his busy teaching schedule takes him all over the world.) His most recent book is Rain of Clarity—available here.
As the light failed on the shortest day of the year (with a lunar eclipse expected tonight) we had a wide-ranging discussion that circled around several social and dharmic issues. His visit here was a bit of a pilgrimage—the lama came to Buddhism by way of the Beat Generation, and Greeniwich Village and North Beach are therefore sacred ground! (Tricycle is located a few blocks south of Greenwhich Village.)
We're going to try and prevail upon the lama's limited time to do some projects with Tricycle—we'll keep you posted.
