New Online Retreat: Caring in the World: The Eight Awarenesses

In our new online retreat "Caring for the World: The Eight Awarenesses," with Robert Paley Ellison and Robert Chodo Campbell, co-founders of the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care, the dynamic teacher-duo explores one of the Buddha's final teachings, the Eight Awarenesses, as a guide to practice and study of intimacy and care. Each week the two will address two new awarenesses, supplementing their reflections with their own stories from their work in clinical care.

This first week explores the first two: Freedom from Desire and Satisfaction. The key to both of these awarenesses, Koshin and Chodo say, is to realize that we always have just what we need— that this is it. "It's this kind of equanimous way of being that is so rare, this kind of quality that is almost like an aspirational quality of contentment, of satisfaction—actually allowing whatever’s coming to be what it is and to really receive it."
